Upload skill bundles through Skills → Create → Upload from your computer. Mention a skill with @ in the composer.
Native Skills upload
Each upload is one complete skill folder — SKILL.md plus evals/, references/, scripts/, and any other files inside. Projects are for separate brand docs, not skill bundles.
Before you start
- Skills are separate from Projects — use the Skills page, not Project file uploads.
- Your workspace may need Skills enabled; check with your admin on Business/Enterprise plans.
- 1
Download and unzip a topic pack
Choose a pack that matches your channels. Unzip — each folder is a full skill with SKILL.md, evals/, references/, and supporting files.
- 2
Prepare one complete skill folder
In ChatGPT’s Skills area, each upload is one skill folder with everything inside it — not SKILL.md alone. You can upload the folder directly or zip it first (recommended if upload fails).
- 3
Upload via Skills → Create
Select Create → Upload from your computer. Pick one skill folder or ZIP. ChatGPT scans the bundle before enabling it. Repeat for every skill you need from the pack.
- 4
Enable and invoke
Once installed, ChatGPT can auto-select a skill when your request matches its description. You can also type @ in the composer and pick a skill explicitly.
- 5
Optional: combine with a Project
For brand docs or examples, create a Project and upload reference files there (5 files on Free, 25 on Plus/Go, 40 on Pro/Business). Project instructions override global custom instructions inside that Project.
Tips
- Do not confuse Skills with Projects — Skills are reusable workflows; Projects are workspaces for chats and reference files.
- If upload fails, zip the skill folder locally and retry — OpenAI recommends ZIP upload when directory upload errors.
- Review SKILL.md and any scripts before uploading skills from third parties.
